Hula Skeleton Toy Design

Designing the Hula Skeleton Toy

We were tasked with designing the hula skeleton toy, from conceptualization to final production. Our focus was on creating a unique and engaging product that aligns with the client's brand identity. As part of this process, we developed detailed 3D models to bring our design concept to life. While the 3D model was an integral part of our workflow, it was just one step in a larger design process. We crafted the toy's style, proportions, and distinct features, ensuring that it has a unique look and feel. This included defining the toy's pose, accessories, and base design to capture the desired playful yet edgy aesthetic.
This project involved creating a 3D model of a Hawaiian dancing hula dancer with a twist. Our client wanted a modern, edgy interpretation that aligns with their rebellious and cool brand identity. Using reference images and brand illustrations, we designed a unique hula skeleton toy that captures the spirit of both the traditional hula dancer and the client's distinctive style. This project is part of the client's plan to produce branded merchandise, including shirts and stickers, with a fresh and subversive aesthetic.
The client provided us with a reference illustration/concepts for the skeleton hula toy, and we used it as a starting point for our work.
We presented the client with various 3D model designs, showcasing different color combinations and styles. The client's primary goal was to create a handmade aesthetic for the skeletons, with thicker bones to facilitate easier manufacturing and 3D printing. Additionally, we designed two types of pedestals—one with text options and one without. The client was highly satisfied with these variations, as they aligned perfectly with their vision

This variation was more colorful, incorporating the brand's colors and featuring a pedestal with text, adding a playful touch. We also included an ice cream cone as part of the design, aligning with the client's ice cream shop theme

This variation's color theme was inspired by Day of the Dead figurines. It features a simple pedestal without text box and no ice cream cone, making it versatile.
3D Printing the Hula Skeleton Toy :

As part of the design process, we 3D-printed a prototype of the hula skeleton toy to bring the concept to life. This allowed us to evaluate the details, ensure the structural integrity, and visualize the final product in physical form.

We used FDM with resin, which provided durability and a high level of detail. Also by printing the model, we could test the toy's functionality, balance, and stability, ensuring it met the client's expectations and manufacturing requirements. It also allowed us to see how the colors, textures, and shapes translated into a tangible product. It gave us the opportunity to refine the design before mass production.

Here are the photos of the 3D-printed prototype. These images capture the essence of the toy, demonstrating its playful aesthetic and unique style. We're excited about the final result and eager to see this design become part of the client's product line.

This project was a creative journey that transformed the client's vision into a tangible 3D model. With a unique blend of traditional and contemporary elements, the result was a playful and versatile design suitable for their brand. We are thrilled with the outcome and look forward to seeing this hula skeleton toy in stores and collections soon.
